I have been making this delicious sweet and sour chicken for over 20 years. The sauce is tangy with a bit of sweetness and goes great with chicken or even meatballs!
You can easily add bell peppers or pineapple if you like.
I have made it the way I am sharing with you since my kids were small and I continue to do so. It’s a family favorite!
Let’s get started!
In an oven safe baking dish, toss in chopped onion and sliced carrot. I also added a jalapeno from the garden. Place chicken over top. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Make sauce by mixing brown sugar and cornstarch together. Stir well. Add ketchup, water and vinegar. Stir well.

Pour sauce over chicken.

Place in oven and cook at 350F for 1 hour to 1-1/2 hours.

Here’s the chicken after 1 hour 45 minutes. Flip chicken.

Cook for another 1 hour to 1-1/2 hours, depending upon the size of the chicken.

Here’s the chicken again, after 1 hour 45 minutes. It’s ready! I usually cook it until the sauce is thick and the chicken is cooked through.

We had the sweet and sour chicken with fresh garden potatoes, natchinka, salad with garden lettuce and rice with garlic scapes. It was so delicious!
