This mock maple syrup from the 1940s is easy to make and has only three ingredients. It actually tastes like maple syrup and reminds me of maple flavored store bought syrups, only so much better! It’s amazing and one of my family’s favorite homemade syrups.
It is fantastic on Oatmeal Griddle Cakes or any other pancakes or waffles.
Let’s get started!
Combine brown sugar and hot water together.

Stir well.

Bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes.

Remove from heat and add maple flavoring. Maple flavor can be quite strong so start with 1/4 tsp and increase if necessary.

Let cool for 20 minutes before serving.

Look at that deep rich color!!

I usually store homemade syrup in a glass jar. I refrigerate once we’re done and it’s easy to warm some up for warm syrup atop pancakes and waffles.

This syrup is so good and reminds me of maple flavored store bought syrups, only so much better!
