I have been making this bean and bacon stew for over 20 years. It’s hearty and flavorful and a meal the whole family will enjoy.
This meal is also cost effective. At just $14 to make the entire pot, that makes it only $2.34 per serving – a great meal for recession cooking!
Let’s get started.
Cook onion, bacon and carrot until bacon is cooked.

Add salt, pepper, dill and parsley. Don’t add too much salt yet because sometimes this stew can become salty.

Once bacon is mostly cooked, add ground beef. Cook until beef has slightly browned.

Add potatoes and water. Cover and cook for 10 minutes. Stir often because this stew likes to burn!!

Add tomato soup and beans. Stir well. Cover and cook for 20 minutes, stirring often.
For the beans, I used one can regular beans in tomato sauce and one can apple bacon mesquite beans which unfortunately gave the stew too much of a bbq sauce flavor it so I recommend just good old regular beans or pork and beans – no flavoured ones!!

Here’s the stew after 20 minutes.

Even though the I added those bbq beans, the stew is still delicious! Serve as is with a piece of bread or biscuit.
