These sweet and sour patties are delicious! The sauce is a soy sauce based sauce which gives it a different flavor than the typical ketchup based sweet and sour sauce.
We have been making these sweet and sour patties for over 20 years and switched from patties to meatballs because that’s what my family enjoys.
Let’s get started!
For the patties, combine meat with seasonings, egg, flour and onion. Mix well. Shape into small patties or meatballs. We usually make meatballs. Place in pan and cook until browned on all sides.

Sauté onion. You can sauté onion first. We cook the onion with the meatballs or patties once the meat is half cooked.

For the sauce, combine the sugar and flour and stir. Add the mustard, vinegar, water, soy sauce and ketchup and whisk. Cook until slightly thickened.


Dump meatballs in casserole dish or oven safe dish.

Pour sauce over patties or meatballs. Cook at 350F for 30 minutes.

1 lb ground beef
Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste
1 egg
3 tbsp flour
2 tbsp minced onion
Sauce:
1-3/4 cups brown sugar
2 tbsp flour
1/2 tsp dry mustard or 1 tsp prepared mustard
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/3 cup water
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tbsp ketchup
1 onion, sliced or chopped
