We are making homemade ground Cayenne pepper and it’s actually quite simple.
This summer we grew a variety of peppers like these cayenne peppers.

This cayenne pepper plant produced well all summer long. We had so many peppers. Here are all the peppers we picked in September. We had about 7 pounds. Some we used to make Cayenne Pepper Sauce and the rest we left to finish ripening.

Once the peppers ripened, we left them to dry. It took about 2 months to fully dry. Once you can break the pepper and it’ll snap, it’s ready.

At first, we placed the whole peppers in the spice grinder.

After the first round of grinding the peppers, we discovered the seeds do not grind, so my daughter removed all the cayenne seeds from the peppers and the stems and ground them again which worked so much better. Continue until peppers are done.

After all those peppers, we got about 125ml/a half-pint of ground Cayenne Pepper. It’s super strong though and quite spicy! But look at that beautiful color!

To use the cayenne pepper, not as much is needed as store bought. It’s fresh and a lot more potent!

Have you tried growing cayenne peppers? What did you make?
