This sweet and sour flavor is so different from the ketchup-style sweet and sour sauce. It’s great on pork and beef and is very flavorful. That’s what we are making tonight — sweet and sour beef. It’s a meal that I have been making for over fifteen years. It’s a meal my family enjoys.
Let’s get started!
Sauté onion and celery together. You can add carrots too if you like. Slice beef. I am using a piece of top sirloin we bought from our local butcher this morning. It’s really nice beef!

Cut beef into cubes or slices. You could also use pork side ribs if you’d prefer. I decided to cube the beef.

Once onion is tender, add beef. Season with salt and pepper.

Cook for about 10 minutes. Add some Coca Cola. I use just over 1/2 cup. I always do this, especially with tougher meats. And it adds flavor that we like without adding lots of sweetness. Add water if you need. Let cook for 30 minutes.

Sprinkle flour in pot, about 2 tablespoons. Stir well.

Mix sauce ingredients together. Pour in sauce.

Cover and simmer for 30 minutes.

Here’s the sweet and sour beef. If it doesn’t thicken, you can add a cornstarch slurry with 2 tbsp cornstarch mixed in 1/4 cup water.

Serve with rice or mashed potatoes and your favorite vegetables.
