Chili cheese dogs is a great meal on a cold winter’s day! This veggie chili is packed with flavor and is delicious on its own, on the side or spooned over top smokies or hot dogs. What I enjoy most about this meal is the chili is cooked in the crockpot/slow cooker. It’s easy to toss all the ingredients in and let it cook all day. And it’s just as delicious the next day!
Let’s get started!
In a crockpot, toss in onion, bell pepper, salt and pepper. Add chili seasoning.

Add tomato sauce and beans.

Add remaining seasonings — I’m using a good sprinkle of chili powder, smoky bbq, smoky applewood, southwest seasoning, 3 onion seasoning, Korean bbq seasoning, dried minced garlic and salt and pepper.

Stir well. I usually taste for seasonings and add more if necessary.

Add cooked lentils. Stir.

Let cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 4 hours. This is after 3 hours on low. I switched it on high for the last 3 hours.

Here’s the chili…looks delicious!

I made hot dog buns simply by shaping the dough into the shape of hot dog buns. It was actually a lot easier than I thought and they taste great! I use my simple pizza crust recipe which makes a lovely hot dog bun!

Here is the chili dog with the works…so yummy! I put shredded cheese first, then the sliced hot dog, more cheese and chili, yogurt or sour cream and green onion or chives. I sprinkled it with honey sriracha seasoning and topped with some chopped lettuce. It was amazing.

Everyone made their hotdog different which is why I like meals like this. I have made these several times! Here, this one is with fried onion, ketchup and cheese which was great with the chili on the side.

This veggie chili is so good! Top chili with shredded cheese, sour cream or yogurt, green onion or chives and even chopped tomato or jalapeno if you like. It’s very versatile!!
