Every time I make this soup, my kitchen fills with the aromas of gramma’s house. It’s nostalgic and brings back memories of going to gramma’s when I was a kid. When we’d arrive Friday evening after a long drive, gramma often had this soup waiting for us with fresh homemade bread.
This soup is delicious and is an easy way to stretch a few ingredients. When a half pound of ground beef would not otherwise feed a hungry family, cooking it in a soup pot with vegetables and broth helps further those few ingredients.

Let’s get started!
Cook ground beef in soup pot until mostly cooked. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, onion seasoning and dill.

Next, we will add onion, celery and carrot. cook until onion is translucent.

Add cabbage. Cook about 10 minutes.

Add potatoes.

Add peas and corn. Stir.

Add tomato sauce.

Add broth. Add water – I’m adding enough to cover everything. I am also adding more seasonings. Let cook 20 minutes.

Add pasta if you like. I am using pastina noodles but you can use any pasta you like, make dumplings or Spaetzle or omit it altogether. Let cook 10 minutes.

Yum! My kitchen smells like gramma’s house. So good. Serve with bread. We are having whole wheat cheese buns which are fluffy and delicious!

This soup is amazing! I definitely recommend it.
