A warm, chocolaty beverage is perfect on those cold snowy days. This homemade hot cocoa mix is simple to prepare, great for gift-giving and warms the soul! It is not overly sweet, is creamy and has a lovely chocolate flavor.
We enjoy hot chocolate but we have found a lot of hot chocolate mixes are filled with junk like an assortment of hydrogenated oils, thickening agents like carrageenan, anti-caking agents, preservatives among other undesirable ingredients. And sometimes, it has a fake chocolate flavor that simply is not good. Preparing your own hot cocoa mix is easy to do and tastes much better than store bought!
Let’s get started!
Initially I thought it would be easy to mix in a jar but I ended up with a bit more than I could easily mix in the jar!

Combine powdered milk, powdered sugar and cocoa powder and granulated sugar in a bowl. You can add the coffee creamer if you are using it, or add extra powdered milk.

Pour into a jar. If you’re giving it as a gift, place lid on, fabric and ring and tie with a ribbon and cute card.

To make, add hot water or hot milk to your cup. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of mix and stir. Add more to your taste.

Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix
2 cups powdered milk
3/4 cup coffee mate or any powdered coffee creamer, optional — these can contain some junk ingredients – if you are not using, add 3/4 cup extra of powdered milk
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup cocoa powder
Mix altogether. Store in a jar. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons, or to taste, to a cup of hot water or warmed milk.
