We are half way through our 12 Days of Cookies. These Cinnamon Brown Sugar Stars are like a spiced sugar cookie — flaky with a lovely cinnamon flavor. They’re not too sweet and not too spicy.
These cookies are a bit nostalgic for me – it reminds me of cookies my mom and I used to make 20 years ago. They were always a family favorite.
Let’s get started!
Beat together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Add egg and vanilla. Beat well.

Add cinnamon, baking powder, salt and half the flour. Mix well.

Gradually add remaining flour until dough forms.

Divide the dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. We cut them out and then refrigerated the cookies.
Roll the chilled dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.

Use a cookie cutter, like a star shape, to cut out the cookies and place them on a parchment lined baking sheet.

You can also use other holiday shapes!

Bake at 350F for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are slightly golden. Cool 5 minutes before removing to cooling rack. Let cool completely.

We have all sorts of holiday shapes! If you’d like to decorate or drizzle with icing, you can. We decided to leave them plain because we like them this way.

12 Days of Cookies… Day 6 — Cinnamon Brown Sugar Stars
2-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Glaze:
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tbsp milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Beat together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Beat well. Add cinnamon, baking powder, salt and half the flour. Mix well. Gradually add remaining flour until dough forms.
Divide the dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper if you like. Roll the chilled dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Use a cookie cutter (star shape works perfectly) to cut out the cookies and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Bake at 350F for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are slightly golden. Cool 5 minutes before removing to cooling rack. Let cool completely.
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth and pourable. Once the cookies have cooled, drizzle the glaze over the tops. Sprinkle a pinch of extra cinnamon or festive sprinkles if desired.
